How to Become a C&L Member

The Color & Light Society welcomes visual artists from Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s Counties who are passionate about creativity and community. Membership offers opportunities to share your work, grow your skills, and connect with fellow artists across Southern Maryland.

How to Apply

  • Submit an Application: Applications can be completed online or by mail.

  • Upon receipt of your application, the
    Membership Chairperson will contact you to discuss membership requirements and answer any questions you may have.

The Review/Approval Process

  • All applicants must submit 5 pieces of show ready artwork for review and approval by the C&L Review Committee (RC). See “RC Review Guidance” for details.

  • Applicants must receive a passing score in order to become a member. The RC Chair will schedule your review, walk you through the process, notify you of the results and debrief you on your score.

  • Final membership approval is issued by the C&L President based on the RC’s recommendation.

  • Within 30 days of your application, you must contact the RC Chairperson to plan the best time for your review. Reviews are scheduled 4 times a year, once each quarter. Contact information is included in RC Review Guidance Sheet.

We invite interested artists to apply online using the form provided below, or to download the application and submit it by mail. Once received, the Membership Committee Chair will contact you discuss membership requirements and refer you to the Review Committee Chair to set up a review of your artwork.
