Celebrating Artistic Excellence in Southern Maryland

The Color & Light Society of Southern Maryland is a nonprofit collective of professional artists from across Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s Counties who are united by their passion for creativity, growth, and community. The Society brings together painters, sculptors, glass artists, photographers, jewelers, and woodworkers, offering a vibrant mix of artistic mediums that reflect the diversity and talent of the region.

Members meet regularly for monthly gatherings that feature artist demonstrations, educational presentations, and time for networking. These meetings provide an ongoing opportunity for artists not only to learn new techniques but also to share experiences and support one another in their creative journeys.

Beyond its internal community, the Society plays an important role in bringing art to the wider Southern Maryland area. Members frequently showcase their work in annual shows and sales, with venues ranging from galleries and local businesses to beloved community events such as Artsfest at Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Sotterley Plantation’s Winefest. These exhibitions allow the public to experience and purchase original works, while also giving artists the visibility they need to thrive.

The Society’s presence is particularly felt at events like the opening receptions hosted at the St. Mary’s County Arts Council Gallery in Leonardtown. These occasions invite the community to meet the artists, explore their work, and engage directly with Southern Maryland’s creative energy.
